Position Purpose

The Commercial Manager is responsible for driving profitable growth in the Poultry category in Malaysia. This role requires one to possess commercial experience and business acumen, with good local market knowledge (including customers, industry, players, products) to achieve country targets. He/she will build effective business relationships with customers and prospects for a sustainable business. The Commercial Manager will work closely in partnership with HR, and Country Director to develop and build local talent in sales. This role will require strong connectivity and partnership with cross functional teams in SMT, Margin Management, and BOSC.

Principal Accountabilities

Drive Profitable Growth

Implements Poultry Marketing Plan by driving aggressive profitability goals set for the business. Leads the deployment of sales plans and goals. Champions and supports the sales/account management teams to achieve the overall success of customer relationships by delivering significant business/financial impact for the defined portfolio of products/services to the customer.

Developing and Building Effective Teams

Develops and implements an integrated talent management program to attract, retain and develop top sales professionals and to ensure optimum level of workforce engagement. Champions and deploys the “Cargill Sales Effectiveness Framework” and drives team work culture and alignment to goals. Identifies and develops key talent to support future business needs through coaching and development programs.

Customer Partnership/Prospecting

Develops deep knowledge of curent and prospective customers’ business, industry trends and new business opportunities. Gain first-hand customer information of current and future needs and translate into improvements in products/services offerings. Understand and influence customers’ employees/stakeholders by understanding and leveraging their contributions.

Margin Management

Partners with Margin Management Team to implement pricing policies

Connectivity

Connects and leverages full Cargill capabilities across different Cargill businesses. Partners with cross-functional stakeholders in Strategy, Marketing &Technology (SMT), BOSC, Finance and Risk Management and Sourcing (RMS) to provide direct input and support business execution. Represents Cargill in official dealings with customers and relevant authorities

Essential Functions/Requirements

  • Ability to engage with and influence across-functional teams to support own team’s agenda

  • Strong Sales and business acumen in identifying business opportunities and make profitable deals

  • Proven capability in building and developing strong sales team – coaching, holding team able and accountable

  • Competent in dealing with external parties (customers, large accounts, traders, local authorities, government agencies)

Qualifications

Education, Experience,Skills

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experiences

  • At least 5 years successful experience in a Commercial / Business Development role

  • Lead team of at least 5 direct reports to achieve commercial goals

  • Animal Nutrition or adjacent industries

  • Commercial skills, i.e. negotiation skills, conceptual selling skills, value based selling

  • Coaching, team building skills

  • Mandarin/Chinese dialects is advantageous due to customer profile
