Our processes cover record to report, purchase to pay, travel and expenses, contract to cash and data management and we drive AZ’s cash focus through disciplined management of supplier and customer payment terms and practices. GFO provides P2P/T&E process helpdesk services to internal AZ and external end users, including training support to internal AZ users. Plans are in place to extend the scope and internal customer coverage during 2017.

GFO operates globally through a combination of in-house and business process outsourcing (BPO). The BPO element has been provided in partnership with our service provider partner since 2008

AZ Finance is embarking on an ambitious, broad ranging, multi-year transformation programme, called Finance Transformation (FT). Through 2016/2017, FT plans for transactional process and technology improvements that will underpin the next wave of GFO transformation and a step change in service effectiveness and efficiency.

The successful role-holder is responsible to lead, motivate and develop members of a the data management transactional team (approximately 10 people), ensuring that the team operates to the highest standards of financial control, compliance and best practice. Ensure quality and accurate delivery of services within agreed key performance indicators (KPIs) and as defined in the Service Level Agreement (SLA). Develop knowledge and capability in team members to raise competence to expected levels to meet current and future business needs and contribute to process and technical expertise to process improvement initiatives. They will work closely with their colleagues within other delivery centres and the global team to share best practice and help to drive global initiatives.

Typical Accountabilities

  • Manage the development and performance of the Data Management Team (vendor, customer and finance data) to achieve efficient processing and effective team working.

  • Ensure adequate resource planning to maintain acceptable service levels according to SLA.

  • Drive development and changes in systems and process improvement initiatives as outlined in APBS scorecard. This includes reviewing updated process documentation.

  • Ensure a high level of understanding of the local business requirements and implement and operate financial controls and governance to a standard that ensure SOX, Financial Controls Framework and Audit requirements are met.

  • Review the KPI metrics related to the function and provide commentaries and root cause analysis where required for further discussion with the Global Data Manager

  • Take the lead in issue resolution on BAU operational matters.

  • Build and sustain effective relationships with local business to deliver performance and implement best practice.

  • Support Global Data Manager in coaching Regional Team Leads and involvement in planning long term the direction of the global data management.

  • Review the creation and maintenance of information and data and ensure that its done at the right time, by the right people and in the right format as well as in line with AstraZeneca Information Management (IM) and Knowledge Management (KM) principles, policies and processes

  • Support initiatives to maximise the value from information.

  • Support the Global Data Manager to drive the development, implementation and support of business information management processes to ensure quality reliable transactional finance data.

  • Back up responsibilities of Global Data Manager during his/her absence.

  • Support Process Lead in coaching team and involvement in planning long direction of the team.

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • At least 8 years experience in Finance and Accounting, include minimum of 4 years experience managing transactional accounting/data teams, in a performance driven environment.

  • Degree or Diploma in Finance & Accounting/Commerce or equivalent with professional qualifications e.g. ACCA/CPA/MIA.

  • Knowledge and experience in SAP or other ERP / Accounting systems.

  • Good communication skills and able to communicate effectively in English.

  • Excellent level of knowledge and experience in information and data management.

  • Experience of managing and coaching people.

  • Experience of working in a shared service centre across a global /large organization will be an added advantage.
