Team Overview:

The Maritime & Trade team focuses on delivering best in class information solutions to our customers in order to help them make critical business decisions. Maritime & Trade customers are drawn from a wide range of sectors: from Government Trade Departments, Military & Intelligence Organisations, the world’s largest public companies, energy organisations, global transport integrators, automotive manufacturers, insurance players and major financial institutions through to ship-owners, equipment manufacturers and anyone who has an interest in global trade and the movement of goods. The Business Line is currently supporting global decisions associated with some of the major headlines impacting world events every single day.

Position Summary

The Lead Development interns will support the Sales team by identifying and qualifying new sales opportunities through using a blend of inbound and outbound prospecting sales tactics. This is to support our effort in creating cross-functional alignment with Sales to build a consistent, predictable, and scalable pipeline for revenue growth across EMEA, AMS and APAC.

Three Core Elements of the Role

  • Prospecting, identifying, qualifying and cultivating sales opportunities through a blend of outbound and inbound techniques, email, research on companies as a component of lead generation and qualification activities utilizing the web, Linkedin, and other research tools available.

  • Gather key information to update the CRM system and assign a nurture path and follow-up strategy

  • Work closely with Inside Sales Account Executives to focus on targeted customers and qualify an opportunity to a high level

You will also spend time with product managers and economists to develop your cross-asset knowledge across the financial markets in order to prepare you for more engaging customer conversation.

  • Excellent verbal and presentation skills

  • Excel skills and proficiency with other MS applications (Word and PowerPoint)

Our expanding Sales team requires a highly motivated Account Manager. The successful applicant will be responsible for selling products from our Maritime and Trade portfolio. This role positions the individual for outstanding career growth within IHS.

Job objective:

The objective of the role is to successfully manage an existing book of subscription business through regular contact and excellent customer service. To grow the existing revenue through exploring new opportunities within an organisation, and to pursue new logo opportunities through marketing and self-generating activity.

General Job Duties:

Schedules activity around review calls, renewal calls and customer queries

Initiates and answers sales calls for IHS Markit products and services

Following up on sales enquiries within agreed time frames to open sales opportunities

Conducts telephone conversations to identify and qualify prospective customers and records sales prospecting activity in CRM system

Ensures customer delight

Specific Job Duties:

Develop/implement a clear strategy to exceed quota

Develop knowledge of IHS Markit capabilities and in particular the specific Maritime & Trade Business area.

Develop a strong understanding of the sales value proposition for the Maritime & Trade data solutions and how they fit into the business requirements of your clients.

Stay on top of industry news and market trends, identifying opportunities and challenges your customers and prospects are facing

Develop relationships with your customers to ensure long term partnerships.

Maintain existing client base as well as sales in to new accounts.

Prepare and submit accurate weekly/monthly/quarterly sales reporting and forecasting

Achieve specific monthly, quarterly and annual sales quota.

Generate referrals and new business leads

Responds to customer calls regarding a specific set of products and services and identifies up selling opportunities for such calls

Grow revenue at existing and new clients


University degree

Min 2 years’ experience preferred of managing end to end sales for New and Renewal business.

Highly organized and efficient at managing day to day business with multiple priorities

English language skills are imperative. Additional languages would be an advantage.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Mature, confident & self-motivated with a passion for selling.

A quick learner on new products and sales approaches

Other skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, CRM, etc.)

Knowledge of contracts and proposal process.

Ability to analyze business opportunities, develop effective sales strategies and close business.

Ability to develop account and territory plans to achieve penetration and grow revenue.

Ability to conduct effective presentations to all levels of clients.

Ability to communicate effectively with most levels of decision-makers and employees of client

Team player who works collaboratively with colleagues, management and all points of the organization.
