Hilton Public Relations Manager in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

* Position Summary: *

This management position will own thecommunication process via public relations and reputation management,setting thecommunications direction of the properties and promoting key messages from thehotels with drive, enthusiasm and with a view to improving commercial results.The role will be responsible for offering best in class public relationscounsel to the cluster business heads and key external stakeholders.

Business Function

Develop, proactively manage and implement theannual cluster PR plan to include media relations, social media, internalcommunications, eCommerce, brand recognition and loyalty marketing withinbudget guidelines

Act as key media liaison in local market,pitching relevant and interesting stories that support the hotel and brandreputation – including MICE, F&B, spa, architecture and design etc.

Manage all internal communications initiativesand strategies to include developing stories, filming, responding to requestsquickly, sharing information with key stakeholders and ensuring all writtenwork is accurate, professional and brand compliant

Identify PR opportunities using competitiveenvironment analysis, topical news and consumer trends

Seek to develop positive links with bloggers

Support individual brand initiatives andensure global and regional campaigns are supported effectively through allavailable channels

Update and create bank of media information toinclude hotel fact sheets, press releases, biographies of key personnel,question and answer documents etc.

Develop and manage relations with key mediacontacts – maintain and update media database

Develop and write news releases that arescheduled throughout the year

Organise one-on-one interviews for GMs and keyHODs, and support with pre-prepared Q&A documents

Evaluate media familiarisation trip requestsand, where appropriate, organise and develop a newsworthy programme of activitydesigned to be informative and entertaining

Co-ordinate local media events where relevant

Respond to customer postings as appropriatetackling any customer complaints/issues and seeking to ‘engage’ with customersat all opportunities using relevant tools/techniques

Seek to grow social media followers and toenhance interaction with customers on these sites

With guidance from corporate communications,develop strong media links within the local markets to promote a positive imageof the hotels

Responsible for measuring key performanceindicators relating to all PR activities, promotions and campaigns, andproducing performance reports for all key stakeholders including daily mediamonitoring and coverage reports

Manage the roll out of PR initiatives tosupport the hotels in meeting their revenue targets, also by leveraging keyfunction activity with regional marketing, regional communications, eCommerce,marketing operations, strategic partnerships and HHonors and third partydistribution

Recognise and execute PR opportunities for theguest loyalty program Hilton Honors as well as other incentive programmes onhotel level

ManagingExecution

Assist in any issues/crisis management asappropriate, acting as key hotel support for media relations

Communicate clearly with hotel seniorexecutives, corporate communications and with customers via all hotelcommunication channels and social media sites

Achieve agreed performance goals and PRobjectives of role set out by the Line Manager

Oversee all PR projects in line with resourcesand budget objectives

Manage internal communications at clusterlevel and take responsibility for updating regional office of any localstories, awards and sponsorship events to promote local, regional and globalcascade

Conduct continuous analysis of competitiveenvironment and consumer trends, and use findings to continuously evaluate anddrive commercial success and social media activity

Ensure full brand compliance across all PRinitiatives at cluster level

Participate in all internal and external PRmeetings and attend relevant industry events, training workshops andtrade-shows

Respond quickly and efficiently to allinternal and external requests

Understand and champion Hilton Mission, Visionand Values

Undertake any reasonable task or functionrequested by the Line Manager to a high standard and a professional manner

Building Relationships

Work as part of the commercial hotel teams,engaging positively and constructively with colleagues and sharingaccountability for maintaining the integrity and positioning of the hotels andbrand

Ensure regular liaison with hotel operationsteam seeking out newsworthy stories and offering communications advice as andwhen required

Establish excellent open communication withall operational teams, i.e. GM, DBD, F&B and other department headsthroughout the region

Develop and maintain good workingrelationships with various levels of Hilton’s personnel including corporate andregional marketing and communications teams, corporate brand, eCommerce,loyalty and partnerships teams

Establish and develop effective workingrelationships with local and municipal government officials and media representatives

Excel at being an effective team player to allcorporate, regional and hotel level personnel by demonstrating a ‘can do’ andcustomer focused attitude, providing peer support, cross-functional and acrossregions

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing,Communications, Public Relations or Business

Experience of working for a number of years ina similar role

Experience of managing and motivating a teamalong with evidence of driving successful team results

Proven knowledge of creating, leading andmanaging fundamental and complex projects to tight deadlines

Experience of developing, creating andmanaging promotional campaigns and PR activities with associated costs andworking to budget restraints

Complete understanding of key functionsrelating to cluster PR strategies and initiatives whilst managing multiple workstreams

Experience in developing and implementingeffective and realistic PR plans and strategies, including budget evaluation,extensive communication written work, management and reporting

Demonstrates ability to interact effectivelywith various levels of management

Preferred:

Master’s degree in Business, Communications orMarketing

Previous experience of working in a PR role inthe hotel industry

Qualifications in project and time management

SKILLS

Required:

Outstanding communication skills in all areasof writing, listening and speaking English. High proficiency of native languagedependant on location of role. In this case, it is Bahasa Melayu or MandarinChinese

Communicates key information effectively toall levels of management using a variety of communication tools

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications,budget management, project and time management

Able to think analytically, critically andstrategically when faced with unique opportunities and/or challenges,prioritising and identifying productive solutions
