Kellogg Associate Director - Nutrition & Regulatory Affairs, SEA & Hong Kong in KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia
The Associate Director – Nutrition and Regulatory Affairs is responsible for supporting the Kellogg Asia Pacific Business Strategy as part of the SEA Leadership team & APAC Research and Technology team by leading the development and execution of all components of the nutrition plan and influencing the nutrition regulatory environment in the South East Asia Region including ASEAN countries, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The main focus of this role is to leverage nutrition to enable business growth, to communicate our nutrition story, allow implementation of nutrition innovation initiatives by defending our ability to sell our foods. This role will also be responsible for labeling and regulatory compliance and influencing the external regulatory environment to provide better opportunity to operate and protect our brands. The incumbent will work closely with the SEA business leaders and senior management to provide strategic leadership and counsel on:
Nutrition & health developments and opportunities that may impact base brands, innovation, and product renovation.
Current and emerging food, nutrition, health, science and regulatory issues that may represent threats or opportunities to the business and plans to influence them, both internally and externally.
Nutrition regarding regulatory compliance for nutrition claims and nutrition label information.
Opportunities to tell our nutrition story with consumers, HCP, customers and nutrition-relevant organizations
What Will I Be Doing?
In your role as Associate Director – Nutrition and Regulatory Affairs, you will be responsible for:
Nutrition Marketing/Communications (20%)
Supports the development of Nutrition Plans for the SEA and GC region in partnership with Senior Manager for the region.
Supports identification and communication of nutrition/ health insights and opportunities for the region. Uses this understanding to be pro-active in helping to develop better business and food solutions, and communications for Kellogg.
Educates and focuses the regional business and R&T teams on how nutrition opportunities and Kellogg products can provide solutions for consumer health/nutrition preferences and needs, with reference to SEA and GC.
Supports Senior Manager, Asia (excluding India) in providing leadership to help develop consumer-relevant nutrition innovation and credible nutrition through our formulas and foods that meet consumer and business expectations.
Partners closely with SEA and GC Brand Marketing and provides leadership to identify opportunities for nutrition innovation (for both existing and new products). Identifies and develops innovative nutrition claims and communications for existing brands and new products that are as compelling as possible to provide business advantage while meeting regulatory constraints.
Nutrition Regulatory (35%)
Identifies implications of proposed changes to nutrition regulations and nutrition & health policy;
Influences the development and evolution of relevant public health guidelines and policies to enable consumer access to our products and shape a positive outcome for Kellogg via strong relationships with decision-makers and key opinion leaders in the region;
Leads the development of plan for the management of nutrition regulatory issues & Labeling that have the potential to impact the business (SEA/GC)
Nutrition Labeling (45%)
Accountable for, all aspects of the development of nutrition labelling and nutrient content, relative and regulated health claims and ensures full compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws and company policies in the SEA/GC region.
Leads issue resolution for SEA/GC by proactively identifying and driving ideas and solutions to ensure regulatory compliance. Oversees special projects related to nutrition labelling. Establishes critical control points to verify nutrition labelling is based on documented formula, product and ingredient information aligned with Asia Pacific R&T and company processes to reduce risk of errors and recall.
Proactively assess the external regulatory environment and supports Senior Manager to develop strategic direction to address nutrition labelling trends or issues to further business strategies.
Represent, and advocate for, Kellogg’s position externally to further support and strengthen the company’s nutrition reputation and long-term strategy. Proactively monitors, evaluates, and leads development of comments, as appropriate, on new nutrition labelling regulatory proposals, notices and rules with relevance to the Kellogg Company.
Maintains nutrition labelling procedures, programs, processes and systems and data integrity. Also provides leadership for ingredient nutrition data input into formulation system and databases to ensure integrity of nutrition labelling data, and ensure the flow and management of labelling information. This includes calculation and maintenance of data critical for customer nutrition information, nutrition reports for business decisions by marketing, product development and upper management and minimizing risk of packaging errors and product recalls due to labelling. Ensures compliance with company file retention policies.
Provides insightful food labelling and claims regulatory compliance expertise and guidance to R&T, Marketing, Legal, Logistics, Procurement, Plant Operations, Corporate Communications, and Consumer Affairs, as subject matter expert for the markets. Helps create and implement corporate policy statements for nutrition labelling and regulatory issues given Company business objectives.
Education & Experience:
8-14 years of experience in the food or nutrition industry working in the areas of nutrition, scientific and regulatory affairs.
Strong negotiation and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders.
Detailed understanding of nutrition & health policy and regulatory environment of the region.
Ability to work in rapidly evolving business environments, with constantly changing priorities, high pressure and short deadlines.
Strong sense of urgency.
Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with key people and organizations.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition.
Working experience of Thailand, Indonesia and Philippians.
The individual must be self-motivated and a self-starter.

Industry Marketing to Children Pledge Groups in Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia.
Nutrition and Dietetic Associations– e.g. Singapore Nutrition and Dietetics Assoc., Food and Nutrition Regulatory Bodies – e.g. AVA Singapore, Thai FDA, other SEA industry groups.
Food Industry Asia, ASEAN Food & Beverage Association
- Extensive regional travel may be required of this position particularly in the SEA and HKT.
