The Online Business Manager (OBM) is the primary owner of the online channel P&L. As such, the OBM is responsible for managing the key levers and relationships to achieve unit, revenue and margin targets for the online channel. The OBM must also work with cross-functional partners and management to keep the rest of the business updated on online business performance, provide frequent outlooks, then proactively & cross-functionally work to develop & execute tactical & strategic plans to improve results.

The OBM role is part of the Global Online Team which has three priorities – Enable CV Growth, Drive Business Metrics and Focus on Innovation.

The Online Business Manager is responsible for maintaining and improving superior online customer experience and supporting the Dell sales organization to find the best online solutions within Dell’s SA Business Unit. This position entails working jointly with Dell internal teams and Dell's senior leadership, driving specific online initiatives through professional program/project management.

The candidate must be proficient at handling multiple tasks/projects and successfully collaborate with the different support organizations, including: Sales, SalesOps, Marketing, Finance and IT.

Above all, the OBM must proactively take ownership of the SA CSB Online business and drive for results. The OBM will promote and work dynamically to drive online activities that will continuously increase online growth at a premium to the market.

Principal Accountabilities/Deliverables

  1. Own the CSB SA Online P&L

    • Define and manage to the online performance goals agreed with the senior management team in SA and Global CSB. This will include growth in revenue/margin/unit goals related to improving the Online P&L and optimizing op inc contribution to the overall Dell business in SA.
  2. Define and own the Online merchandising strategy

    • Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate online initiatives with the segment plans and budgets, ensuring that online and offline programs are synchronized especially with regard to pricing, online incentives and advertised policies such as money-back or price match guarantees.

    • Develop an in-depth understanding of Dell’s products and pricing strategies, understand the competitive landscape and work closely with Brand to provide feedback on Dell’s online strategy

    • Actively research new opportunities for alliances in SA and/or marketing initiatives that will drive visitors to the Dell website and convert them into purchasers. This will include securing MDF funding and both country and regional partnerships as necessary.

  3. Own Online’s operational excellence

    • Work with team to carry out regular “walk in the customer shoes” audits to proactively identify issues

    • Ensure that any Online business procedures are adhered to accurately and that the Online Business team within SA communicate these processes to the impacted teams eg. Sales/CE/Finance etc.

    • Ensure that company policies such as export compliance are met for Online transactions.

    • Actively research and share best practice processes and activities for the online business across the APJ region and globally.

  4. Drive Innovation

    • Proactively identify and define the business priorities for IT and site optimisation enhancements that will underpin the planned growth of the Online business channel and achieve the agreed financial performance targets.

    • Leverage direct customer feedback through CSAT verbatim and ongoing team interaction for new idea generation

    • Actively work with Program Manager to develop the strategy to improve profitability and productivity of the online channel through the deployment of new technology.

    • Communicate regularly with GMs and MDs to review progress against the online performance targets including the content/application development plans.

  5. Online reporting and analysis

    • Actively review and report on the Online performance for SA including progress against all goals.

    • Proactively setup and conduct Online reviews with the relevant senior management ensuring that achievements in online and progress towards goals are regularly communicated.

    • Prepare reports/presentations regarding Online performance within your region for use in team and management meetings including Business Reviews.

    • Understand LOB performance and SA CSB Online performance vs market.

    • Work closely with Global Analytics team on identifying opportunities for site optimisation initiatives.

    Requirements

    • Minimum 7 years of experience in online with a track record of measurable results preferably in the consumer electronics or IT industry

    • Experience in merchandising, brand, media and/or partner marketing

    • Strong analytical and budget management skills

    • Appetite for driving innovation and change

    • Good organizational agility and interpersonal skills to work effectively across functions and lines of business in a virtual organization

    • Ability to manage through ambiguity to drive results

    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment

    • Strong team player and supporter

    • Strong knowledge of the Dell product lines

    • Fluent in English

    Minimum Educational Requirements

    • MBA preferred
